The Sands Academy is a full-day independent elementary school committed to academic excellence where students experience a unique approach to learning. Our full-day elementary program for students, grades K-3 incorporates the most recent research findings related to the development of language, literacy and learning in a supportive, structured environment. Our students are encouraged to expand their knowledge using their strengths to develop reading, writing, math, social and organizational skills.

Branching out

The Sands Academy provides a multi-sensory program designed to meet individual needs. Classroom activities include a balance of explicit skill instruction and immersion in thematic units that encourage language development and creative problem solving. Children are taught specific foundational skills supporting:
  • Reading
  • Math 
  • Vocabulary Development 
  • Listening Comprehension 
  • Oral and Written Expression

Student progress will be documented and assessed by the teaching team to formalize instruction for each child.



Named in honor of Richard Sands, Chairman of Constellation Brands, and his wife, Jennifer, The Sands Academy will serve as a national model for education. “Assisting individual children and their families to achieve independence and academic success is paramount to their personal development and the future viability of the Greater Rochester community,” said Mr. Sands.
